
SUSAN SAGLE, RN, OCN, CCRP
Clinical Manager
Susan began her Oncology nursing career at Eisenhower Medical Center in 1978. She served on a number of hospital committees including the Multidisciplinary Oncology Team, Bioethics Committee, Medical Research Committee and the Institutional Review Board. She has managed both inpatient and outpatient oncology units. She has served on the Boards of Directors of the American Cancer Society and Gilda’s Club Desert Cities. A member of the Desert Cancer Foundation Board of Directors since 1999, Susan is currently the chairperson of the Patient Assistance Committee. She is the former Director of Research at The Cancer and Blood Institute. She is a Certified Clinical Research Professional as well as an Oncology Certified Nurse. In 1991 she was a recipient of the Lane W. Adams Award from the American Cancer Society in recognition of outstanding and compassionate cancer nursing, and for setting the highest standard in care for people with cancer and their families.

BARBARA PHLAUM, CCRP, CIM
Regulatory Manager
Barbara began her working career with the Bank of America and subsequently Security Pacific Bank where she held positions as the New Accounts Specialist, Loan Officer and Branch Secretary. In the early 1980’s she worked as the Administrative Assistant for the Family Heritage Church in Indio, California. In 1985, Barbara went to work for Eisenhower Medical Center where she served as the Administrative Secretary and Institutional Review Board Coordinator in the Department of Pharmacy Services. She also held a per-diem position with The Cancer and Blood Institute where she worked as Research Assistant and Data Collector for the oncology research program and Bone marrow transplant program. In 2004 she became the Regulatory Manager for the Cancer and Blood Institute and has since served as a private research contractor for several area physician groups. She is a member and is certified with the Society of Clinical Research Professionals (SoCRA) and the National Association of IRB managers (NAIM).

AKIKO STONE, RN, CCRP
Data Manager
Akiko was born and raised in Kurashiki, Japan and came to the United States in 1977. She attended Woodbury University in Los Angeles as an Office Management major in the late 1970’s. She moved to Palm Desert in 1978 and received her Associate of Arts in Nursing from College of the Desert. She also studied Spanish and Computer Business application at COD and went to work for Eisenhower Medical Center between the years of 1981 and 1999 as a Medical / Surgical Nurse, a Special Care Unit Nurse and a Critical Care Unit Nurse. She served as Data Manager for the practice of Lawrence Cone, M.D. and was later hired by the Cancer and Blood Institute as Research Nurse, Clinical Research Data Manager and Research Coordinator. She worked as a Contract research Coordinator for Eisenhower Medical Center from 2005 until December, 2006. Akiko is a member of the Desert Southwest Investigational Review Board and is certified with the Society of Clinical Research Associates (SoCRA).

LILLI MANDELIK, M.A.
Administrator, Contract Manager
Lilli is the former Administrator for CareSouth Home Care, a for profit company with multiple agencies across the United States. For the previous seven years she served as the Director of the Desert Comprehensive Breast Center at Desert Regional Medical Center. Lilli served as the Director of Business Development for DRMC between 1993-1997 and was originally recruited to the hospital as the Manager of Hospice of The Desert Communities in 1991. Prior to working in Palm Springs she worked at Eisenhower Medical Center in the Department of Human Behavior and The Peter Lake Radiation Oncology Department. Lilli holds both a Masters degree from Chapman University and a Bachelors degree from Pepperdine University in Psychology and began her career counseling patients with acute illnesses. Lilli was instrumental in starting the Suzanne Jackson Breast Cancer Fund which serves uninsured valley residents who need screening and diagnostic mammography services. She sits on the Medical Advisory Board for Gilda’s Club and has been part of the Executive Committee and a board member for the Desert Cancer Foundation since 2001. |
